Secure Device Management: Getting Started with PSoC 64 and AWS

Security has become a cornerstone for nearly every embedded system, but mastering security concepts can be time consuming and costly. Developers designing IoT devices do not need to start their security solution from scratch. In this course, we explore the fundamentals of embedded security and walk developers through what they need to know to get started implementing security on their own devices in the shortest time possible so that they can focus on their application code. This course will leverage the PSoC 64 secure microcontroller and Amazon Web Services to demonstrate and walk developers through how to:

  • Provision and deploy a fleet of devices
  • Onboard and perform firmware over-the-air updates
  • Securely manage their device

This course will include the following core sessions:

  • Session 1 - PSoC 64 Architecture and Security Features
  • Session 2 - Provisioning and Connecting Devices to AWS (Development vs Production)
  • Session 3 - Device Life Cycle Management with Firmware Over-the-Air Updates

The course labs in this course include:

  • Lab 1 - Secure Development Kit (SDK) and Toolchain Installation
  • Lab 2 - Provisioning and Onboarding an IoT Device with AWS
  • Lab 3 - Performing Firmware Over-the-Air Updates with AWS

The course includes two pre-requisite sessions which include:

  • Video 1 - Securing Embedded Systems using Threat Based Analysis Methodologies
  • Video 2 - Securing the IoT from Chip to Cloud

Additional Topics that will be discussed in this course include:

  • Threat-based security analysis
  • Trusted Firmware for Cortex-M (TF-M)
  • Security policies and keys

Each session is approximately an hour in length and includes a lab of similar length. The course is self-paced, with attendees being responsible for purchasing their development board. Supported development boards include:
